It is natural, as humans to fall prey to the illusion of infinite time. Afterall, as we age, our bodies tend to, but we still feel young at heart. The future can seem endless! But life has a way of speeding up and years slip away quite quickly.
It's not uncommon for people to confront this reality later in life and find they regret not pursuing their dreams or spending more time with loved ones.
It is when we recognize the limited nature of our time on Earth that we realize how important living with purpose truly is. We can choose to embrace life more fully and live with intention.
Here are a few ways to make the most of the time we have:
Prioritize What Truly Matters: What's important to you? What do you value? Find out by engaging with your core values and align your time and energy on what brings you genuine fulfillment.
Let Go of Distractions: There are countless ways to waste our time. Become more mindful of how you are spending it and cut out what doesn't bring you joy.
Stop Waiting for 'Someday': Often times we wait for the 'perfect' time to start something. Such as waiting for the kids to get older, waiting until XYZ is paid off, or once I'm done with this big project... How much time is lost in this waiting. In reality, life is happening today and there's no time like right now.
Be Present: Have you ever spent time with a friend or loved one who was distracted the entire time? It's frustrating. Carve out your time in a way that allows you to be present in what you're doing and fully enjoy it. Whether that's being in nature, working on a project, or spending time with family. Choose your timing and allow yourself to really be there.
It's OK to say No: This one aligns with number four. When we're constantly saying yes to things we'd like to say no to, it's hard to be present. Take stock of what is important and what you truly want to do and say no to the rest. You will thank yourself later.
In summary... Make every moment count. It's an illusion to believe our time is unlimited. The term "life is short," is regularly thrown around, but how many of us take heed?
Magic happens when we able to live by our internal value system and grow into our unique purpose. We become so grateful for every precious moment and people in our lives.
